As the month of November is starting, the Greater Hewitt Chamber of Commerce is encouraging residents to shop local. The day after Black Friday does have a name – Small Business Saturday – in honor of that, the chamber has decided to dedicate the month of November to supporting our small businesses in Hewitt, Texas.

So why should you join with the Hewitt Chamber and shop local?

Shopping local can be the difference in the success of a community, it encourages local businesses, keeps the money in the city and helps to boost the economy! Often times, locals do not realize the difference you can make for your city all by shopping local.

Here are some of the reasons that the Greater Hewitt Chamber has found to encourage you to support your local businesses in the month of November!

Boosts the Economy

Shopping local boosts the economy around use because the more money spent in a local independent business stays in the community then if you were to shop at a chain or out of town.

Increases Local Jobs

Shopping local creates and increases local jobs. Small, local businesses are the largest overall employer nationally so support your small businesses! In addition, with some sectors provide better wages and benefits than chains do. Over 90% of our members are small businesses.

Local Supports Local

Local business support the community. They are more likely to support local events, schools, charities and sports groups of the area than a larger more well known chain.

Increases Local Tax Base

Shopping local increases our tax base. When you support and invest your day-to-day dollar in Hewitt businesses, you are contributing to our tax base which improves the services we all benefit from.

Local Decision-Making

Local ownership ensures that all important decisions are made locally by people who live in the community and actually feel the impact of the decisions.

Entrepreneurship

Entrepreneurship fuels America’s economic innovation and prosperity, and serves as a key means for families to move out of low-wage jobs and into the middle class.

Product Diversity

Multitude of small businesses, each selecting products based, not on a national sales plan, but on their own interests and the needs of their local customers, guarantees a much broader range of product choices since they come from the original vendor’s idea.

Competition

Marketplace of tens of thousands of small businesses is the best way to ensure innovation and have lower prices over the long term.

Stay tuned during the month of November for the Hewitt Chamber’s inside look on shopping local.
