HEWITT, TX (Feb. 1) – The Greater Hewitt Chamber of Commerce has always believed in helping our members, providing opportunities to develop professional skill sets and strengthening talent here in Central Texas. The Chamber focuses its efforts on giving back to our members and the communities we serve. Created in 2008, the Greater Hewitt Chamber Scholarship Fund will award scholarships to Midway students and/or seniors of an employee at a participating current member business. The scholarships are awarded to applicants who demonstrate academic excellence, citizenship, community and school involvement and are either Midway High School students or children of a participating member business. Scholarships are awarded based on academics, need and personal qualities.
Eve Colton
Daughter of Laura Colton; After graduation, Eve plans to attend North Texas State University or Temple University and major in Film.
Jordan Generals
Daughter of Eddie Generals, Brandi Ledbetter and Stepfather Wesley Ledbetter; After Graduation, Jordan will be attending Stephen F Austin and plans on pursuing her Masters in Speech Pathology and while attending SFA, Jordan will look to walk on to the Softball Team.
Colby Janecka
Son of Darrell and Cindy Janecka; Colby will attend either the University of Texas, Purdue or Vanderbilt and study electrical engineering and entrepreneurship. He intends to pursue a career in computer engineering with a start-up company.
Rida Sarwar
Daughter of Ayaz and Sabahat Sarwar. Rida is planning to major in Chemistry at Baylor University. She aspires to become a doctor, and take the Pre-Med track in order to attend medical school.
Ryan Mason
Daughter of Robert and Nika (knee-ka) Mason; Ryan plans to attend Southern Methodist University or University of North Texas, where she will study abroad in a Scandinavian country and participate in a work study program as a pharmacy technician. Intended Major: Double major- BFA film production and Pre-Med
Uyenmy Nguyen
Daughter of Do Nguyen and Trang Le; Uyenmy plans to attend MCC for two years before transferring to Baylor. She would like to earn at least a Master’s Degree at most and possibly come back for a Ph.D. or Psy.D.
Preferred major/area of study: Clinical Psychology or English; Preferred profession: Possibly become a clinical psychologist or professor
Allison Sorrells
Daughter of Steve and Becky Sorrells; Allison plans to attend either Abilene Christian University or Texas A&M University to study Business and Finance.
Sophia Tullos
Daughter of Suma Tullos and Mark Tullos; After graduation Sophia will attend Texas A&M and plan to major in mechanical engineering.
Katherine Vieregg
Daughter of Michael Vieregg Amanda Priest Vieregg; Katherine plans to attend Texas Tech in the fall to study Secondary Education and history. She plans to minor in political science with a goal to become a high school history teacher and teach world history as well as U. S. Government. She would love to teach at either an international school or military base to continue traveling.
Garrett Williams
Garrett Williams is the son of BJ and Jill Williams and currently attends Midway High School. Garrett’s main passions are theatre and film. He is currently the president of Midway’s Panther Players theatre organization and was an officer on the State Thespian Board for 2016. He is planning on going to Baylor University or the University of Southern California to major in Film Production.
