Live music by The Damn Torpedoes, A Tribute to Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers will kick off at 6:15 p.m.

Click here to learn more about the band: Since the mid-70s, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers have churned out unforgettable classic rock gems. From “American Girl” and “Into the Great Wide Open” to “Free Falling”, “Mary Jane’s Last Dance” and beyond, they have left an indelible mark on the American pop cultural landscape. Such staying power is a testament to the fact that the whole is always greater than the sum of its parts. While no one will argue with the fact that Tom Petty is one of our greatest songwriters, Tom himself would tell you that he couldn’t have done it without his band. Amazing musicians like Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench have contributed to a sound that’s unmistakable Heartbreakers. The Damn Torpedoes, whose name is a play on the seminal ’79 Petty album, Damn the Torpedoes, are long-time Austin musicians who have fashioned themselves in that mold: guys that have been around the block but attack the Petty hits like a hungry, young band out to conquer the world. By emphasizing intangibles like chemistry and staying power, The Damn Torpedoes recreate the sound and feel of one of the world’s greatest bands. Painstaking attention to detail – tones, arrangements, harmonies, performance and look – will give the audience an experience that’s as close to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers as you’re going to find.

The first mark bid may be one (42) mark or two (84) marks (max. bid per hand 5 marks.) Bidding marks does not indicate Nel-0.

Playing out of turn will cause the hand to be forfeited and the next hand started after a new shuffle. Not playing a required domino will cause the hand to be forfeited and the next hand started after a new shuffle.

The person leading the first domino may choose to lead any domino they desire; it does not have to be trump.

Washers Tournament

NACHO DADDY WASHERS TOURNAMENT DETAILS

Sat., May 6, 2017 | Warren Park, 450 S. Old Temple Rd. | Hewitt, TX | 7:00 p.m. | $15.00/Player

Rules: Scoring is one point for being on the board, three points if you are leaning over the edge of the cup and five if you are in the cup. Nacho Daddy’s tournament is limited to the first 16 teams and teams may register at Hewittchamber.com/Nacho.

Board Distance: 21 feet to the center of the opposite cup from the back of your board. The back of the board is where you will stand when pitching your washers. When you have established this distance you can easily add eye hooks and a rope to your boards so you won’t have to measure again.

To determine who will “pitch” first to start the game, a player from each team will pitch one washer toward the opposite board and whoever gets closest to the hole will start the game. After the game has started the person or team who scored last pitches first.

Playing the game: Team A’s player will pitch their three washers (one at a time) toward the opposite board followed by Team B’s player. Scoring is determined after both players have pitched all of their washers. Only 1 player/team scores per round but scores points for all washers that are closer than their opponents. Equal points cancel each other (e.g., If team A pitches a one point and a five-point toss and Team B pitches a 1 point then team A scores five points).

The winner is the first team to reach 21 points. If Team A reaches 21 and team B has yet to pitch their washers then team B is allowed to finish the round. Judges will decide if the pitch is a legal leaner and will measure the distance of the washers to closest to the cups.

Nacho Daddy Divisions: Orange Division (10 teams) will start single-elimination tournament play at 2:00 p.m. and will continue to play until one team remains. Orange’s winning team will break while Yellow Division (10 teams) begins to play (approximately 8:00 p.m.). The winning teams of Orange and Yellow Divisions will play the final game for the Nacho Daddy Cash Prize and Trophy! A portion of the event proceeds will benefit MISD Hunger Free.

Prize: 1st place: Cash Prize (half of entries) and Trophy! All participants will receive a goodie bag, one event admission ticket, complimentary chips and salsa, water. Food trucks will also be present.
